Welcome
If you found me through the Relax & Renew® Restorative Yoga Teacher Directory, welcome.
I have completed Relax & Renew® Restorative Yoga Levels 1 and 2 and continue my study of Restorative Yoga through advanced training and teaching assistance with Judith Hanson Lasater.
My approach is grounded in support, curiosity, and respect for the body you have today. There is no pose to perfect and no need to make yourself relax.
A Restorative Practice Created for You
In a private online session, we begin with a conversation about how you are feeling and what would be most supportive.
I will help you create comfortable positions using blankets, pillows, chairs, and other items you already have at home. We can adapt the practice for your energy, mobility, health considerations, and ability to get down to or up from the floor.
Your session may include:
-
Gentle movement to help you settle
-
Fully supported Restorative Yoga poses
-
Breath awareness
-
Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra or another form of guided rest
-
Ideas for creating a simple restorative practice at home
You are welcome to practice seated, reclining, or in another position that works for you. No previous yoga experience is needed.
Who Might Benefit?
Private sessions may be especially supportive when:
-
You are carrying stress, fatigue, or the demands of caregiving
-
You live with chronic pain or changing energy
-
Rest sounds appealing, but settling is difficult
-
You need more individual adaptation than a group class can provide
-
You want to develop a realistic restorative practice at home
Restorative Yoga is not about forcing relaxation. It is about creating enough support that you can begin doing less.
Yoga Nidra and Guided Rest
Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation usually practiced while reclining or resting comfortably. The practice may invite awareness of the body, breath, sensations, and other aspects of present experience.
You do not need to clear your mind or follow every word. You may remain awake, drift toward sleep, or move between the two.
Jan is also trained in Divine Sleep® Yoga Nidra and may include Yoga Nidra or a simpler guided-rest practice when it is appropriate for you.
Meet Jan
Rest should meet the body you have today.
Jan Michael is a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and a certified Relax & Renew® Restorative Yoga teacher. She has extensive experience practicing and teaching Restorative Yoga and has assisted Judith Hanson Lasater in her restorative yoga teacher trainings.
She is also trained and experienced in Divine Sleep® Yoga Nidra.
Jan works with people who are navigating stress, fatigue, chronic pain, illness, injury, life transitions, or simply the need for more rest and support. Her approach welcomes anyone who is looking for a slower, more supportive way to practice.
Jan brings these practices together to create a session shaped around you, not a predetermined sequence. Depending on what you need that day, your practice may include fully supported Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra, or a simpler guided-rest practice.
Nothing to prove. Nothing to perfect. Just the possibility of being supported and finding a bit more ease.
